Young People's Jewish Song Writing Contest

The First Young People’s Jewish Song Writing Contest for children 8-18, with a First-Prize Winner of $36 in each category, is sponsored by Sharim v’Sharot Foundation and the United Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks.

Children residing or attending school in Mercer County, New Jersey or Bucks County, Pennsylvania, are asked to create original Jewish songs in three age appropriate categories: 8-11, 12-15, 16-18. The First Prize of $36 will be awarded in each age category. Songs will be judged by Jewish music educators, musicians, rabbis, cantors, principals or teachers employed in Jewish education. Winners will be presented to the community, and some of these songs may be performed at Sharim v’Sharot’s "Israel 60" Concert on May 4, 2008, at 12:45 PM, at The Little Shul by the River, 85 West Mechanic Street, in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

Music reaches beyond boundaries and connects one generation to another. Young song-writers are asked to express their thoughts and feelings about Jewish life, events, people, prayers, customs, or writings.
